WOW THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG TO COMPLETE
Print for AX 2012 and Otakon 2012. Kind of made like a true blue poster instead of just a print, so I guess a motivational poster for Avatar/Korra.
All of the poses and compositions, though some of it is a purely aesthetic choice, try to correspond to the character of their element. Let me ramble about them for a moment if I may, humdidum.
The Yin is rising over the Moon, just as Korra is rising to her responsibilities as the current Avatar. Yin is the dark and feminine portion of the mutual Yin and Yang. Her right hand brings up water, while her left holds it steady.
The Badgermole is centered and grounded, just as Hung gar, with it’s steady horse stances and strong forms, grounds it’s practitioners just as Earth does for the bender.
The Sky Bison is protective, circular, just as Bāguà quăn invokes circular, deflective motion in it’s forms, so too does Tenzin turning from the viewer in a show of deflection against the opposing, offensive force of the Dragon.
The Dragon is in turn wild and spread out, recalling the external nature of Northern Shaolin, with it’s powerful spikes of energy in it’s attacks and forms.(via legend-of-korra)
